Application (Sys) Adapter For SAP
The Application (Sys) Adapter For SAP allows an organization to fully integrate its SAP, mySAP Business Suite, and SAP Portals application systems with virtually any other legacy system, DBMS, EDI, B2B, ERP, SCM, or CRM application on any platform. High-speed, low-impact, non-intrusive access to and from SAP exposes the critical business logic and data contained with SAP for reuse: the key to building a successful e-business application or integrated enterprise.
Accelerate SAP Integration
The Application (Sys) Adapter For SAP adheres to the SAP ABAP serialization rules published by SAP AG. Point-to-point computing environments are often restrictive, providing very little flexibility for change. Also, as the computing environment expands to include legacy systems, ERP packages, SCM packages, CRM packages, EDI networks, B2B exchanges, and the Internet, the cost and complexity of the application integration maintenance grows. In some cases, the point-to-point solution cannot be expanded at all, forcing the integration to be re-engineered.

By using the Application (Sys) Adapter For SAP in combination with iWay Service Manager, true integration of SAP with all your various disparate applications is not only possible, it is downright easy. Supported environments include IBM WebSphere, IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Commerce Server, Oracle 9iAS, and Oracle 9iAS InterConnect.
Product Details
The Application (Sys) Adapter For SAP is configured within the SAP R/3 system. The adapter is integrated with the iWay Service Manager and "listens" for SAP outputs. The adapter can "push" synchronous customized RFCs, RFC-BAPI, or RFC-IDoc requests and asynchronous IDocs from SAP to IBM MQSeries, Microsoft MSMQ, Java JMS or Oracle AQ queues, BizTalk file receive functions, SOAP, or HTTP POSTs. The iWay SAP Adapter can be configured to wrap XML around RFC-IDoc and RFC-BAPI requests. It can also be configured to either wrap XML around an outbound IDoc or accept the native IDoc formats untouched. The RFC-BAPI request or IDoc retrieved is the result of a business event within the SAP system configured with SAP's tools.
Rapid Interoperability
The Application (Sys) Adapter For SAP has over 550 formatting and transformation templates for standardized SAP IDoc (non XML) documents and a GUI workbench tool that generates XML representations of IDocs, RFCs, and RFC-BAPIs from the production SAP Business Object Repository (BOR). The iWay Service Manager is used to transform these IDoc or XML documents (RFC or RFC-BAPI) into a number of XML and non-XML formats, including cXML, xCBL, ebXML, OAG BOD, SQL, ANSI X.12 EDI, UN/EDIFACT EDI, SWIFT, FIX, and HIPAA.
The Application Systems Adapter for SAP could be invoked as the result of an event in a different application, such as Add Employee in PeopleSoft HR systems that triggers an update to the SAP R/3 module. The adapter provides support for RFC-BAPI, RFC-IDoc, and SAP IRF XML formats. The Application Systems Adapter for SAP is executed by the iWay Service Manager, which can be installed on any platform, including the SAP application server platforms such as AIX, Solaris, HP/UX, and OS/390.
Metadata Repository
The iWay SAP Adapter maintains a metadata repository describing business objects and RFC modules. For example, a Java servlet seeking information from an SAP source must have built-in knowledge about the RFCs and BAPIs it plans to invoke or be prepared to discover their characteristics by querying an SAP R/3 repository. Every available RFC module and BAPI has a unique name and each can accept import or export parameters.
Product Benefits
The iWay SAP Adapter provides a scalable, high-speed, lightweight solution that runs within a message broker or application server environment, enabling and reusing SAP R/3 modules and BAPIs to be incorporated into new application initiatives. No modifications or recoding is necessary on the SAP R/3 system.
The iWay adapter technologies offer developers these advantages:
- Rapid creation and integration of B2B transactions, using XML or non-XML EDI formats such as ANSI X.12, UN/EDIFACT, and SWIFT
- Extend packaged and e-business applications systems, based on Java, XML, SOAP, and Web Services, without requiring any custom coding
- Reduce the cost in extending packaged applications into a B2B trading partner management, based on standards such as ebXML, .NET, and Web Services
- Provide a common development environment integrated inside of multiple message brokers and application servers
- Uniform XML Interface for all packaged applications thus reducing the requirement for specific packaged applications native API knowledge
- Bidirectional adapter functionality to automate integrated event-driven input capability to integrate real-time transactions
- Document conversion from proprietary XML to standard XML, EDI formats, SQL, and RPCs to other application systems
- Protects investment in legacy databases, ERP, CRM, SCM, and homegrown "legacy" applications modules
Runtime platforms: Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, z Series, p Series, and i Series
