iWay Tuxedo Adapter

The iWay Tuxedo Adapter is an easy-to-use solution that simplifies integration of BEA Tuxedo-based applications with virtually any other system. Whether you are moving transactions or data into or out of Tuxedo-based applications, the iWay Application Adapter for Tuxedo eliminates the need to write and maintain point-to-point interfaces between Tuxedo applications and other application systems, transaction systems, EDI networks, B2B networks, and legacy data stores.

Flexible and Easy to Use

Point-to-point computing environments are often restrictive, providing very little flexibility for change. Also, as the computing environment expands to include legacy systems, ERP packages, SCM packages, CRM packages, EDI networks, B2B exchanges, and the Internet, the cost and complexity of the application integration maintenance grows. In some cases, the point-to-point solution cannot be expanded at all, forcing the integration to be reengineered. By using the iWay Tuxedo Adapter in combination with iWay Service Manager, true integration of Tuxedo with all your various disparate applications is not only possible, it is downright easy. Supported environments include IBM WebSphere, IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Commerce Server, Oracle 9iAS, and Oracle 9iAS InterConnect.

Simplified Integration

The iWay Tuxedo Adapter provides a common development environment for all enterprise integration projects that integrates real-time and near real-time (event-driven) transactions from Tuxedo applications to non-Tuxedo environments, including Web Services and .NET. Integration of Tuxedo transactions and queues are provided with Java JMS queues, HTTP, IBM MQSeries queues, Microsoft MSMQ queues, Oracle Advanced Queuing (AQ) queues, TCP/IP, and SOAP protocols.

How It Works

BEA Tuxedo Java Application to Transaction Manager Interface (JAMTI) services are hosted by the J2EE container application server that a Tuxedo application implementation has selected, including BEA WebLogic. The iWay Service Manager maps XML events into and from the J2EE environment without requiring any custom Java coding or special integration in the message broker environment. Developers use GUI tools (iWay XML Transformation Workbench) to map XML requests into service calls that are executed against Tuxedo ATMI application services that have been coded using C, C++, COBOL, CORBA, or Java.

Maximum Interoperability

The iWay Tuxedo Adapter is integrated with the iWay Service Manager which communicates via Java JMS, HTTP, IBM MQSeries, Microsoft Message Queueing, Oracle AQ, TCP/IP, or SOAP protocols. The iWay Tuxedo adapter handles both the creation of and the conversion from the Tuxedo supported message typed buffer formats, FML, and XML formats. In the case of an incoming Tuxedo message event, the format adapter "listens" for standard Tuxedo events on a iWay listener. These brokered or unsolicited events are "trigger" processes within Tuxedo, and occur as a result of a business event in the Tuxedo environment such as completion of an asynchronous transaction request or receiving messages from a Tuxedo /Q queue.

The iWay format adapter then converts the incoming document, into the appropriate output adapter document based on an iWay XML request format. The iWay Service Manager will format these XML documents into a number of XML and non-XML formats, including cXML, xCBL, ebXML, SAP IDoc, OAG BOD, SQL, ANSI X.12 EDI, UN/EDIFACT EDI, SWIFT, FIX and HIPAA. Target application integrations include CICS, IMS, SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Siebel, i2, Commerce One, Ariba, Vantive, and BroadVision. It should also be noted that BEA eLink and XML interfaces provide no direct integration with Web Services, Microsoft .NET services, or BizTalk Server 2000. The iWay Tuxedo Adapter provides a very effective bridge between Tuxedo applications and the .NET Enterprise Servers offered by Microsoft.

Native Tuxedo Support

The Application Systems Adapter for Tuxedo is designed specifically to provide open access to Tuxedo application services using native ATMI services, including asynchronous services (tpacall), synchronous services (tpcall) and message queue (tpqueue) interactions. The iWay XML request documents can be used to:

Send and receive Tuxedo messages
Begin, end, or commit Tuxedo transactions
Execute ATMI service calls to a remote Tuxedo server

In addition to the native interface to the ATMI services, the application adapter can also utilize direct XML where this is supported in the specific customized Tuxedo application implementations (Tuxedo release 7.1 or higher). If the environment does not directly support XML, the iWay Service Manager can expose an XML interface, known as an iWay XML Request Document, and map the XML request/responses to Tuxedo FML or typed buffers formats at runtime.

The underlying ATMI service interfaces are supported by the iWay Service Manager or directly using C/C++ API, COM+, or Java JCA connectors without requiring any custom Java coding. This also provides direct access to over 200 applications, databases, and transaction systems from within the Tuxedo application environment, which is a significant improvement over BEA eLink integration offerings.

Adapter Benefits

The iWay Adapter technologies offer Tuxedo developers these advantages:

Rapid creation and integration of B2B transactions using XML or non-XML EDI formats such as ANSI X.12, UN/EDIFACT, and SWIFT
  • Extend packaged and e-business applications systems based on Java, XML, SOAP, and Web Services without requiring any custom coding
  • Reduce the cost in extending packaged applications into a B2B trading partner management based on standards such as ebXML and Web Services
  • Provide a common development environment integrated inside of multiple message brokers and application servers
  • Uniform XML Interface for all packaged applications thus reducing the requirement for specific packaged applications native API knowledge
  • Bi-directional adapter functionality to automate integrated event-driven input capability to integrate real-time transactions
  • Document conversion from proprietary XML to standard XML, EDI formats, SQL, and RPCs to other application systems
  • Protects investment in legacy databases, ERP, CRM, SCM, and homegrown "legacy" applications modules
